Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, CEO  of Atlético de Madrid, will be joining the speaker lineup for World Football Summit 2019, which will take place on September 24th and 25th in Madrid. The club’s main stakeholder will be interviewed on the Main Stage by Julio Senn, economist, layer and partner of Senn Ferrero Sports and Entertainment, one of the world’s leading boutiques specializing in sports and entertainment.

The panel will be entitled “The Rise of Atletico de Madrid” and it will take place on Tuesday September 24th at 11.35 am. It will be the fourth time that Gil Marín takes part in WFS. He participated in a panel in the inaugural event, in 2016, and took the stage again in 2017 to present the Wanda Metropolitano. Last year he was part of the WFS Industry Awards ceremony as this stadium was rewarded with the award for the Best Venue.

Gil Marin will discuss the key aspects behind the deep transformation that Atlético de Madrid has experienced during the last decade. In a little less than 20 years the club has gone from Second Division to winning three Europa League titles (2010, 2012, 2018), one Spanish Cup title (2013) and one LaLiga title (2014).

Under Gil Marín’s leadership, Atlético has used the outstanding performance of the team coached by Diego Pablo Simeone as a springboard to enter a virtuous circle. The club has boosted its broadcasting revenue thanks to its successful participation in the UEFA Champions League, but also experienced a tremendous growth in the commercial area.

The Wanda Metropolitano, which hosted the 2019 UEFA Champions League final between Liverpool and Tottenham, has played an important role in this process. During its first season, it enabled the club to increase its match-day revenue in over 30 per cent.

All these combined factors have turned both Atlético de Madrid and Gil Marín into international references. In fact, the executive was recently elected as a member of the board for the European Club Association (ECA).

Gil Marín is the latest speaker to join the lineup for WFS19, which already features Leading decision-makers such as Peter Moore, CEO of Liverpool; Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga; Emilio García, Chief Legal Officer for FIFA; David Hopkinson, Global Head of Partnerships for Real Madrid; Charlie Marshall, Managing Director for ECA; and executives representing brands such as Amazon, Banco Santander, Budweiser, DAZN, Facebook or Rakuten.
