Racing Club and the Afghanistan women’s team join the WFS Industry Awards 2019 winner list 1953 938 World Football Summit

Diego Milito, former international Argentinian striker who played during two seasons at Real Zaragoza and won the Champion’s League with Inter Milan in Madrid, also scores goals in his new duties! The former football player, who manages Racing Club de Avellaneda’s Technical Secretary since he retired in 2017 had a distinguished role in the campaign “Your place in the world” (directed by Flavio Nardini and designed by Damián Kepel from the agency Súper), which has been granted the Best Club Commercial Initiative presented by McCann WFS Industry Award.

“Do not stay without your place in the world” was directed by Flavio Nardini and designed by Damián Kepel from the agency Súper

The emotional campaign compares the happiness you feel when you become a Racing subscriber with the one you feel when you sign the purchase of your new house. In the spot, Milito plays the role of the notary public in charge of signing what it seems to be a mortgage but which finally results in a season ticket to attend the team’s games at “El Cilindro” stadium. The initiative which outvoted Club Deportivo Leganés and Borussia Dortmund (the other two award finalists), touched the supporters’ heart and enabled the Club to obtain over 5,000 new subscribers.

“I am not used to being in front of a camera, but I understood that it was a good way to add to this initiative from the Club’s Marketing department. That made me realize that one takes the spot of an opinion leader and those of us who managed to enter, for any reason, in the supporter’s heart are the vehicle to arrive in a clear manner with a message that the Club needs to pass on”, explained Milito, who had already appeared in the subscribers’ campaign on the previous year.

“This campaign meant a lot to the Club since we significantly grew in amount of season tickets and that affects directly in the ordinary income of the Club” – Roberto Martínez Álvarez

In Racing we work a lot in the sense of belonging to at all levels: from the younger divisions to the professional football and with this campaign the same message reaches the supporter: “We all are part of Racing’s growth”, he added.

“For Racing, this award means a lot since it positions us at an international level. Like any prize it’s a caress to the soul, especially for people like us who work from the passion. This campaign meant a lot to the Club since we significantly grew in amount of season tickets and that affects directly in the ordinary income of the Club”, highlights Roberto Martínez Álvarez, member of Racing Club management team.

On the other hand, Afghanistan women’s national football team players have won the WFS Industry Award for the Best Women’s Football Initiative presented by Women in Football for their valuable contribution to the fight for the Human Rights and against discrimination and the sexual  abuse in the country.

Kelly Lindsey, coach of the Afghanistan national team

The national team’s players, managed by American former football player Kelly Lindsey, created the hashtag #Voice4voiceless to report via social media the mistreatment and sexual abuse which several players had suffered from some of the officials of the Afghanistan Football Federation.  The campaign had an amazing impact which triggered, among other results, the lifelong disqualification of the Federation’s President, Keramuddin Keram, and four other managers accused of violating FIFA’s Code of Ethics.

“It’s truly an honor for the players of the Afghanistan Women’s National Team to be recognized for their bravery to stand up for change and bring a voice for the voiceless. It hasn’t been easy, many of them took significant personal risk, and have put their families at risk in the process of doing so.  But as a result, they’ve truly become messengers of hope for future generations. These women have started a global movement. Their strength and bravery have united individuals and organizations to dialogue and work towards a better future for all.”, she explains.
