World Football Summit is proud to announce the renewal of Johan Cruyff Institute as Academic Partner for 2020. The leading educational institution specializing in sports related programmes has been a part of WFS since the very beginning. It has hosted some of the most interesting panels at our flagship event in Madrid, where they’ve brought to stage big names like Jorge Valdano, Roberto Martínez, Christian Karembeu or Shabnam Mobarez, among others. In 2019 they joined us in our international expansion as part of the WFS Asia Expo Area and next year they’ll take a step further.

Johan Cruyff Institute will be Academic Partner at WFS Africa, WFS Asia and WFS20. In the fifth edition of our flagship event, they will once again host a panel which will be focused on underlining the need for profesional athletes to continue with their academic education in order to face the challenges of life after sport.
This has been the main principle of the institution founded by football legend Johan Cruyff, an inspiring leader and one of the most influential figures in the recent history of sport. Cruyff firmly believed that no one was better suited to serve the best interests of Sport than someone with the heart of an athlete, but he was also convinced that in order to fulfill that role athletes needed to improve their education.
“Athletes are committed, eager to improve, and goal-oriented. With these traits and the right academic training, our athletes become successful leaders in the world of Sports Management.” – Johan Cruyff

Football legends Edwin van der Sar, currently CEO at Ajax FC; Michael Reiziger, Headcoach at Young Ajax, or Gianluca Vialli are among the Johan Cruyff Institute alumni. So is Daniel Martin, currently serving as Group Chief Financial and Operations Officer at Al Jazira Sports Club.
According to Martin, “completing the Masters in Football Business in partnership with FC Barcelona assisted me greatly in securing a new role back in the Football business with a club. Not only did I return to the industry with an enhanced skillset due to the world class teaching and latest industry insights learned on the course but I also added further credibility to my CV in the eyes of existing leaders in the sport as well as an enhanced network to reach out to when trying to secure the right opportunity”.
With a powerful combination of professors, staff, and partners, the Johan Cruyff Institute aims to produce the next generation of Sports Management leaders. With over 9,000 students who have experienced their online and on-site programmes, the Johan Cruyff Institute can now be found all over the world, with institutes in The Netherlands, Sweden, Spain, Mexico, and Peru.
