Cultural Considerations

Cultural
Considerations

  • Be on time – even 5 min late is frowned upon.
  • Exchange business cards with both hands; study the card briefly before pocketing.
  • Use titles first (Ms Chan, Mr Lee) until invited to switch to first names.
  • Moderate your volume; interrupting and use of loud voice is viewed as rude.
  • A “yes” can mean “I hear you”. Confirm real agreement and next steps.
  • Small branded gifts are fine; expensive items require prior consent.
  • Queue etiquette – orderly lines for registration, food, and coffee.
  • Cashless rules – cards preferred, even in taxis. Octopus cards are common.
  • Dress business‑formal; light fabrics for humidity, jacket for strong A/C.
