Thibaut Courtois to Discuss Athlete Investment at WFS Madrid 2026

Thibaut Courtois, Belgium goalkeeper and two-time Champions League winner, widely considered one of the best in the history of the position, will take the stage at the upcoming WFS Madrid to present NXTPLAY, the investment platform he co-founded to give elite athletes a structured route into equity ownership across sport, media and innovation.

Courtois will be joined on stage by Gonzalo Vila, co-founder and CEO of the platform, to discuss how NXTPLAY was built, what drives its investment decisions and where the model goes next.

Many athletes invest today. Few do so with a structured thesis and a defined process. NXTPLAY was built on precisely that distinction: not an athlete putting money into isolated projects, but a platform with its own architecture where athletes, family offices and top-tier investors enter real projects together, with structure and impact behind every decision.

It’s an approach that figures in the sports investment space have already singled out for the deliberate architecture and discipline behind its portfolio. The platform’s current holdings include Le Mans FC, KRC Genk and CD Extremadura.

This 15–16 September, WFS Madrid returns to La Nave.

Football moves in every direction — and WFS was born to bring it all together. For two days, rights holders, executives, investors, brands, clubs, leagues and innovators will gather in Madrid to connect, exchange ideas and explore what comes next for the football industry.
